Dr. Michael Milshteyn is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in orthopaedic trauma, fracture care, shoulder arthroscopy, and reconstructive shoulder surgery. Born in Baku, Azerbaijan, he immigrated to the United States with his family at the age of eight and was raised in Metro Detroit, where he developed a strong commitment to serving the community he now calls home.

He provides comprehensive orthopaedic care with a special focus on fracture management, treating patients referred from emergency departments, urgent care centers, primary care physicians, and specialists throughout Southeast Michigan.

Dr. Milshteyn was born in Baku, Azerbaijan (formerly the Soviet Union) and immigrated to the United States with his family at just eight years old. Growing up in Metro Detroit shaped both his values and his commitment to serving the local community.

Michael Milshteyn, MD, FAAOS, is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in complex orthopaedic trauma, fracture reconstruction, and shoulder surgery. An attending orthopaedic trauma surgeon at McLaren Macomb Hospital in Mount Clemens, Michigan, Dr. Milshteyn has eight years of clinical practice experience and performs more than 450 surgical procedures annually. His practice encompasses the management of high-energy and complex fractures, pelvic and acetabular trauma, fracture nonunions and malunions, and complex reconstructive surgery. His shoulder practice includes complex proximal humerus fractures and nonunions, shoulder instability, reconstructive procedures, and shoulder replacement surgery.

 

Dr. Milshteyn earned his Bachelor of Science with Honors in Medical Technology from Michigan State University and his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency through the Wayne State University/ Beaumont hospital. The  subsequently completed fellowship training in Orthopaedic Trauma at Regions Hospital/University of Minnesota in St. Paul, Minnesota.

 

Since 2018, Dr. Milshteyn has served as an attending orthopaedic trauma surgeon at McLaren Macomb. He is a Clinical Associate Professor at Michigan State University and serves as core faculty for the McLaren Macomb Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program affiliated with Michigan State University. Education and mentorship are central components of his career. He was named the residency program’s Educator of the Year in both 2024 and 2025, recognizing his commitment to the clinical and surgical education of future orthopaedic surgeons.

 

Dr. Milshteyn is also actively involved in physician and healthcare leadership. He serves on the Medical Executive Committee at McLaren Macomb and on the Orthopaedic Trauma Association Practice Management Committee. His involvement with the Orthopaedic Trauma Association has also included national educational activities and resident trauma courses.

 

His academic interests span orthopaedic trauma, fracture reconstruction, arthroplasty, biomechanics, and surgical innovation. Dr. Milshteyn has authored peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and has presented his work at regional and national scientific meetings. He has also contributed to national clinical practice guideline development through the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

 

Beyond clinical medicine and academic surgery, Dr. Milshteyn works with the medical technology industry, providing education to surgeons and medical technology sales professionals and contributing clinical expertise to the advancement and appropriate application of orthopaedic technologies.

Born in Baku, Azerbaijan, Dr. Milshteyn immigrated to the United States in 1989. His path from immigrant to surgeon, educator, and physician leader has helped shape his commitment to opportunity, education, mentorship, and service. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and remains committed to advancing orthopaedic care through clinical excellence, education, research, innovation, and physician leadership.
